To deliver or not to deliver, that is the question.
I recently had some renters that cancelled their reservation and let me know it was due to the high fees they were being assessed on top of the rental cost. That got me to thinking that I should get all the options out in the open so you know what to expect when making a reservation for any of my vehicles on Turo, or to possibly modify your current reservation. There are actually a fair amount of options, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have about any of them.
Airport delivery
This is typically the most convenient, but also the most expensive. On top of the rental charge there are quite a few fees that get added on, which are almost entirely beyond the control of any host. So here is the breakdown for a vehicle with a $92 a day rental charge for a 7 day trip with airport delivery.
Rental charge - $92 x 7 = $644
Trip fee - $59.81
Minimum protection - $104.33
Delivery fee - $65
Total - $873.14
The trip fee and protection costs are set by Turo and may vary from renter to renter, so your prices ay vary slightly from this. There is the additional cost of $5-$10 to exit the economy parking lot as well, but that is a charge directly from the airport at the beginning of your trip.
Hotel delivery
Some renters like the ease of catching a shuttle to and from their hotel, then having the vehicle delivered to them wherever they may be staying. This type of delivery is available in Davis county and Salt Lake county (mostly). Unfortunately, I don’t currently do deliveries to Park City or Utah County, though they may be added in the future.
Rental charge - $92 x 7 = $644
Trip fee - $59.81
Minimum protection - $104.33
Delivery fee - $90
Total - $898.14
There is no parking fee from the airport at the beginning of a trip like this, though you will need to ensure that a shuttle is available to your hotel if you would like this option.
Home location pickup
If you are heading to Davis county, or anywhere north of Salt Lake City, this may be an attractive option for you. Grated you do need to find a way to get to the location in Bountiful, UT which is roughly 15-20 minutes from the airport. I have seen Ubers cost as little as $25-30 and as much as $60-70 per trip, so it can be a gamble if that is the option you are looking at.
Rental charge - $92 x 7 = $644
Trip fee - $59.81
Minimum protection - $104.33
Delivery fee - Nothing!
Total - $808.14
This generally isn’t a great option if you are with a group larger than 2, as the Uber is definitely going to cost you more to get all the luggage delivered with your larger group.
I hope this helps inform your decision a bit! Drive safely and have fun!
